End of tunnel for P2P sharing?

France recently unveiled an anti piracy plan aimed at stopping illegal music & movie downloads. The idea seems simple & strong, although with little quirks. It calls for cutting off Internet access if you are found sharing music or movies illegally after a certain number of warnings. But the question is, how effective will it be? What happens if the sharing happens through a public access point. If this plan succeeds, it is enticing enough for the music & movie industries in other countries to lobby for similar laws. If all this happens as planned will it be an end of P2P sharing? Just have to wait & watch.

Can the Celtics do it? Can they go undefeated?
Maybe not. But they sure can end up as one of the teams with the best record. Their record in Texas will be a preview of how far they can go in the playoffs.
How about the Laker’s?
I don’t care what their record says, they’ve been playing unbelievably better than the last season. Let’s see how far they can carry this effort. Maybe this will be a glimmer of hope to keep Kobe in LA.
All the other teams?
Nothing unusual so far!

Worst Polluters

Can you believe this? Apparently the developed nations aren’t any better than the emerging economies when it comes to carbon emissions. In fact they say USA emits 16 times more than India per capita. Now that’s an interesting statistic after all the recent bickering about India & China at the global climate summit. Now what Carma (Carbon Monitoring for Action) is doing is impressive. Like any success story nothing happens without the data which shows what the problem is & lays out the goals we want to achieve. This might be a good example of how technology can be used to bring attention to global problems.

Gmail crashing Firefox

November 13, 2007 PV 1 comment

Gmail is causing Firefox to crash when trying to log out. Looks like this has been happening since the roll out of their new performance updates. I haven’t found a place on the Gmail site to report this error. Not sure if this is happening with every configuration or with just Firefox 2.0 on Windows. Hope this gets noticed soon & is fixed. It can get annoying after a while. Just amazing how simple issues like this can get through testing successfully.

Updated: Work around for preventing the crash.

  1. Open a new tab/window right before you want to sign out.
  2. Switch back to your Gmail tab/window & sign out.

So far these steps seem to be preventing Firefox from crashing.

Ads on WordPress

November 8, 2007 PV Leave a comment

After digging through the FAQ’s for a way to add ads to my blog, I found out that ads were not allowed on the version of blogs hosted on WordPress itself. I just assumed that there were no ads at all. I recently pulled up one of my blog posts from Google and saw ads around my post. I did some digging and here is what I found. Of course I do not have a problem with ads as long as they are unobtrusive, but was curious. Hey, can’t complain about the ads if you are not paying anything for the hosting & other services.
