The Democratic Battle

So much for all the talk about a splintered Republican Race a few weeks ago. Look at how close the Democratic race has been. Hopefully for them they will have a nominee after the Texas & Ohio primaries. With all the focus on their primary race, McCain is even getting away with allegations about his ties to lobbyists, the very basis of his political campaign being the fight against them. Obama is looking more & more likely to secure the Democratic nomination. But you never know, a good win in Texas can turn things around for Mrs.Clinton. But her every move is back firing right now & isn’t scoring her any political  points(like her plagiarism charge).Well it will definitely be interesting to watch all the events unfold for the political junkies in the months to come.

Thoughts ’bout Iowa primaries

There is some aura of likability around Obama while on the other hand the only quality displayed by Clinton is arrogance. Listening to each of their speeches after the Iowa primaries, some how Obama’s speech felt more honest & hopeful. Of course being an immigrant I probably do not understand all the issues that need to be addressed or that need attention. But Obama although inexperienced seems like a person who can lead & inspire people into taking on something beyond reach. After all the predictions for so long to the contrary it is good to see Obama turn his campaign around and win Iowa. Let’s see how the rest of America feels about him..

Fair argument for calculating emissions

December 12, 2007 PV Leave a comment

This is the fairest argument I’ve ever heard on how to calculate carbon emissions. If some system can be worked out along these lines & if all major players can come to agreement on a new protocol, it will be a major step towards the reduction of carbon emissions. Meanwhile what can I do? Don’t know. I will have to research smaller steps I can taken to do my part.

Worst Polluters

Can you believe this? Apparently the developed nations aren’t any better than the emerging economies when it comes to carbon emissions. In fact they say USA emits 16 times more than India per capita. Now that’s an interesting statistic after all the recent bickering about India & China at the global climate summit. Now what Carma (Carbon Monitoring for Action) is doing is impressive. Like any success story nothing happens without the data which shows what the problem is & lays out the goals we want to achieve. This might be a good example of how technology can be used to bring attention to global problems.
