Microsoft’s bid for Yahoo

Wow! What can you say. Probably the most attractive part of Yahoo would have been the traffic to it’s properties & their engineering talent. This might be the most trickiest decision Microsoft’s management had to ever make. If they don’t make an offer they loose a good oppurtunity to gain some advantage in their fight against Google. But if their offer is accepted it will be a huge challenge to integrate the two companies, which may even end up gobbling the profits from its cash cows(Windows & Office). But this is a fight they have to fight for their survival in the future, as more & more services move towards the web & desktop software becomes less & less important. It will be interesting to watch this unfold.

Money Management

Mint is a cool new money management site that was awarded TechCrunch40’s top company award. The features they offer look pretty cool & intuitive. Although, the security practices & standards they cite for aggregating data sound pretty safe, part of me is still skeptical. I don’t think I can resist the convenience it offers for too long. Maybe the best part could turn out to be, the fact that they say you can take or remove your data whenever you want (unlike the benevolent sounding Google!).

Dividends on Insurance Premium

I received a check yesterday from State Farm, supposedly a dividend on the premium I payed for the last 6 months. I never heard of anything like that since I started paying my auto insurance. That definitely surprised me because we live in a time where all big corporations are only worried about raking in the billions.
